Happy Birthday Wiener!!!

Sheesh lots of March babies! Today is my brother's Birthday! So of course the perfect present of an illustration is needed! This is whats in my agenda and its really not an exaggeration. I think it really captures the essence that is Wen. Fawn usually calls him "Wiener Dog" and, it seemed easier and more appropriate to illustrate that as opposed to all the colorful things I may have called him in the past. Anywhooo....Happy Birthday Wiener!

Lil' Red

Happy Thursday! The weekends so close I can taste it, and it tastes like chicken! Todays piece of art is Lil' Red and her friend the wolf done on illustration board using acrylic paints. A few ideas rolled around in my noggin about how I wanted to change the traditional view of Little Red Riding Hood and the fox. I went from sketching Lil' Rusty Robotic parts Riding Hood to Little Dead Riding Hood. IN THE END, little traditional cute Red Riding Hood won out. What can I say, she's little, well dressed and cute! Sound familiar?

Oh so HANDsome.

I know, I'm tired of posting homework too. None the less I'm posting some hands I tediously drew for class. Nick believes I should talk more about the process of my pieces, so here we go. Stay alert class, take notes and sips of coffee... The method we use in class is called chiaroscuro, invented by Caravaggio, made famous by Leonardo Da Vinci and Leonardo Di Caprio (Come on...that naked picture of Rose on the Titanic was pretty good!). Anyhow figures, faces, hands, noses, you name it are described by dark and light shadows instead of lines. And thats it, easy peasy, fresh and breezy! Next time I'll draw my feet for everyone, those will have lots of interesting shapes and shadows from years of disfigurement caused by ice skating and kicking people!

A Classic

Two years ago I got a lovely Wacom tablet for Christmas from my oh so giving boyfriend, Nick. Learning how to use this thing felt my eyeballs and hands were working on two different art pieces. So the first couple runs on the tablet accomplished nothing. But after a little bit of practice this is the first recognizable little beast I drew when my hands stopped feeling like they were disconnected from my body. It's Bub from a cute little classic Nintendo game called Bubble Bobble. Though some may disagree, I am a bigger fan of the game Bust a Move featuring the same fat dinosaur siblings Bub and Bob. However, I must give the original game merit because I recently found out the premise of the game was Bub and Bob working through the levels to rescue their dinosaur lady friends. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good romantic storyline.

Adopt this Old Man

Have you guys seen those Secret Deodorant commercials where the girls like "Wanna know my secret?" than they say something lame along the lines of "I use a nightlight," or "I don't use deodorant," or "I just sharted"(ok that ones not real.). Regardless, I have a real secret, I haven't ever been able to draw people and faces realistically...EVER. Ha ok maybe thats not such a huge secret, I'd love to do a deodorant commercial anyways. So my classes this semester consist of head and hand drawing, both useless body parts if you ask me. BUT here is an old man's head I sketched for a class assignment using Carbothello red and white pastels on this ridiculously pricey paper. Sure his proportions might be a tad off, and yes, maybe his eyes are a little too wide and far apart but theres just something about him I like. He has a homeless magician quality to him. As if things aren't going so great in his life now, but the show must go on!

With your donation of 80 cents a day, cheaper than your morning coffee, you can give this old man a comfortable bed, a warm meal and school supplies...

Happy Birthday Magoo!

March 9th marks the birthday of my best friend *Magoo* Adkins! (*Names subject to change) Like any other birthday celebrated here on meany-pie.blogspot.com we commemorate our birthday girl with an illustration. I really hope celebrating your birthday involves more than visiting this blog. This illustration was made for Madge using water color, pen, spit and lots of TLC. If you can't tell its a photobooth strip featuring everyones favorite odd couple Wen and Magoo as well as their little beast Bug. Surprisingly my brother Wen was an extremely fun character to draw, even more surprising he turned out especially adorable in this illustration. Before your ego gets real big, I'm not sure this is a case of art imitating life, Wen. Jk...not really...

Here's to you Ms. Adkins, I hope you had a wonderful birthday. *Drinks a can of Fresca

Happy Birthday Fawn!

So yesterday was my sisters birthday, so it only seem appropriate to post something "Fawn" related. This is a digital illustration of Fawn and Greg's mutant dog Zoey. This little dog is a 4 pound reincarnate of Satan himself. The last time I dog sat Zoey, I recall being sweaty from fear and wearing oven mitts to unzip her carrier. I'm an aspiring artist, I can't lose these precious fingers! I finally gave up trying to get her out of her bag for dinner, so instead I lowered a goat in a harness into her carrier Jurassic Park, T-Rex style. I'm aware a goat and a harness wouldn't really fit into a 4lb dogs carrier, shut up its my blog.

Anyhow, Happy Birthday Fawn!

Zoey says: "I promise not to bite you for your Birthday...just kidding" *Attacks Fawn's face.

Gnome Sweet Gnome

After much thought I've decided that in my next life I would like to come back as a Gnome. I understand that it is gamble. I may end up in one of two paths as a gnome. Option 1. I could end up traveling the world and posing for photographers much like a model, but shorter, fatter and wearing non designer threads. OR I may end up with a fishing pole, sitting on a toadstool in some trailer park in the Midwest. This is a risk I am willing to take.
